Just an after thought…as I flipped through the gazillion news channels for my daily dose of current events with my morning cup of bru coffee…. I realized I treat the news almost like morning entertainment…every morning there seems to be some sort of breaking news faithfully waiting for my voyeuristic inquisitiveness.
I flip channels to for the best views, the bigger scoop, and the ‘exclusive interview’, which induces that jaw dropping, wide eyed ‘I can’t believe this can actually happen’ reaction…
In the end, I am just another face that is fuelling the sky rocketing TRPs of the recent news channel blitzkrieg… Now people relax, im not saying I want to go back to the one channel boring doordarshan news at nine with that irritating (tanna tana na na) music at the start …I’m all for private news corporations, independent views yada yada yada.. When one watches about three news channels, they cancel each other out and one actually gets a fair approximation of what actually happened…

My peeve is the blatant sensationalization of the whole hooplah of events that happen …now if you think about it… Go back to 9/11,.. What are your images of what happened…the two buildings getting hit by the planes, right. Anything else..ok ppl running on the street…and…anything else ..Dubya giving a few speeches,,,,,

Ok in contrast, now fast forward to the Mumbai blasts, what are your images…gory mangled bodies, people in anguish and pain, ‘exclusive interviews’ of survivors with rescue operations in the background…accounts by rescue volunteers and medical workers on site stated that the journalists and TV crews were actually getting in the way of rescue efforts.

In my opinion the local news corporations lacked the sensitivity with which 9/11 was handled by the international bbcs and cnns
Makes me wonder if the price we pay sometimes for ‘detailed news and reviews’ is a little too steep…are we progressively losing respect for basic human dignity somewhere in all this?
hmm...
