EU reaches deal on emissions cuts
Tuesday, 20 February 2007,
'EU environment ministers have agreed in principle to cut greenhouse emissions by 20% from 1990 levels by 2020.The ministers, meeting in Brussels, also agreed to seek a 30% cut worldwide if matched by other developed nations...'

I still remember the sleepy Development Anthropology classes in the final year where we spoke for a whole semester about this faraway thing called Sustainable Development, the greenhouse effect , emmission reductions and different stands of countries on this issue. However, in class while studying it ,there was for some reason a disconnect- where we were theoretically 'aware' about the issue but I dont know how sensitive we were to it, and I dont know if we did comprehend fully the gravity with which the ecological changes will eventually effect our lives. The Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012, and international negotiations continue- some some move forward, remain stagnant and some regress..
However news like this is definitely on the brighter side of things!
